Concerns that Rhinoplasty Can Address

Every patient who visits with the New York and Connecticut rhinoplasty specialists at Profiles & Contours has a unique concern that requires a very personalized solution. Some of the most common concerns our patients have about the appearance of their nose include:

  • A nose that is disproportionately large or small
  • A bump on the bridge of their nose
  • A nose that is crooked or "off-center"
  • Indentations on the sides of the nose
  • A wide or overly narrow nose
  • A nasal tip that appears "bulbous" or droopy
  • Flared or pinched nostrils
  • Sharp edges from a nasal injury

By utilizing computer imaging, our surgeons will do their best to show you the potential result that works best for you.

Rhinoplasty in New York and Connecticut

For most of our patients, the rhinoplasty (nose surgery) procedure can be performed in about 1 hour. The vast majority of our procedures are performed in a surgery facility in our New York office that is fully accredited by The Joint Commission. For the convenience of our Connecticut patients, initial consultations and most follow up appointments can be scheduled in our Norwalk office.

During your surgery, your surgeon will carefully modify and reshape your nasal bones and cartilage to create the look you discussed in your consultation. After surgery, a small plastic splint must be worn for about 5 to 7 days to maintain the new shape and protect your nose. Nasal packing is rarely used.

Recovery and Results

Recovery following nose surgery is quick and comfortable for most patients. You may experience some bruising and swelling around the nose and eyes, but discomfort is usually minimal and easily controlled with prescription medication. We also prescribe medications to limit and speed the resolution of any bruising you might have. You will be instructed to keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses to minimize post-operative bruising or swelling.

Most of our rhinoplasty patients from New York and Connecticut return to work or school in 1 week. Some swelling may still be present and any bruising that might persist is easily coverable with makeup. Swelling subsides gradually over time although the nose typically already looks much better than its pre-operative appearance after 1 week. The remaining swelling progressively resolves over time and will finally disappear after 6 to 12 months.

Results from rhinoplasty can range from the most subtle to the very dramatic based on the degree of correction that was required. The majority of our patients realize a remarkable difference with only small actual changes to the appearance of the nose. The natural look is considered ideal and we strive for the natural looking outcome to avoid the obvious "nose-job" appearance that almost all patients wish to avoid.

Selecting your Surgeon

How do you choose the "right" surgeon to perform your rhinoplasty or septoplasty procedure? First review a surgeon's experience, training, and credentials. Take a look at their before & after photos to see if you like the results they are able to achieve. Another important factor is whether or not a surgeon offers computer imaging technology to help you envision your final result and refine your objective. During your computer imaging, you will come to realize that a picture is really worth a thousand words! Finally, cosmetic surgery is a very personal experience - make sure you like your surgeon and feel that he or she offers you the time you need in going through this process.
