Case Number: 83

Before   After

Multiple sports-related facial and nasal fractures left this patient's nose and septum severely displaced. His nasal airway was completely obstructed, and he had difficulty breathing. To find out how plastic surgery in New York could correct these problems, he scheduled an appointment to meet with the surgeons at Profiles & Contours. This patient's case was particularly challenging, so Dr. Erlich and Dr. Turk collaborated to plan and perform this patient's combination septoplasty and rhinoplasty together.

Using an open approach technique, they straightened the internal and external structure of the nose while reducing the nasal bridge and the size of the nose tip. At the same time, they restructured the problematic front portion of the nasal septum using the straighter bone of the posterior septum. The result is a "near-perfect" nasal airway that allows air to flow freely through the nose while improving the appearance of the nose in relation to the rest of the face.

Most patients find nose surgery recovery to be quick and relatively painless. Bruising and swelling are part of the body's normal reaction to extensive structural adjustments like this patient's procedure, but our techniques help ensure a smoother healing process, and any discomfort can be controlled with medication. Since his New York nose surgery procedure, this patient has found that his breathing has improved significantly, and his new, more balanced nose shape looks entirely natural in conjunction with his other features.
